Artist Bio

All About Nemo

Nemo N (She/They) is a mixed race, transfemme agender, autistic conceptual artist and photographer. In May 2023, she graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor's degree in Art & Archeology: Practice of Art. Her works frequently comment on mental health, gender politics, human rights, race relations, concepts of community, and banal beauty. Since 2022, she has participated in twelve exhibitions as an artist and curator, including two full-scale solo exhibitions. Her solo exhibitions were "988 (1;800;273;TALK)," surrounding mental health and suicide awareness, and "Living in the GAP," focusing on finding joy in a growth aspirational presence (GAP). Her next solo show will investigate concepts of femininity through a trans lens, and she has the themes for her following four solo shows already selected.

Artist Statement:

My primary artistic goal is to elicit a response from the viewer spanning from positive (in the case of portraiture and illustration), to negative (in the case of social critiques), and all the complexities of subjective thought between (in the case of abstractions). I use visual art as a method of communication. I am autistic. As such, I struggle with verbal communication. I tend to have so much going on in my head and no way to vocalize all of my aberrant thoughts in a lucid manner. Art, however, is a way for me to connect my thoughts and experiences in a cohesive nonverbal form. By taking time to slow down and translate the ineffable into the tangible, I allow myself to explore my thoughts much more fluidly and thoroughly than in their fleeting synaptic form. I strive to utilize and combine various techniques, media, and art forms in an attempt to expand the vocabulary through which I can effectively communicate with the world.
